Community Guidelines

Hangpost is for making real friends in your city. Everything here follows from that one sentence.

The six norms

1. Show up. The cardinal sin on Hangpost isn't an awkward hangout; it's tapping "I'm in" and not coming. If you can't make it anymore, tap "can't make it" so the group knows. Repeated no-shows lower your standing and eventually your access to joining hangouts.

2. This is not a dating app. People here said they want friends. Treating the feed like a dating pool (hitting on people, repurposing hangouts as date funnels) breaks the one promise that makes Hangpost work, and it's the fastest way to get reported and removed. If two people happen to fall for each other at trivia night, congratulations; that's life. Working the room is not.

3. Be who you say you are. Real name or the name people will call you at the hangout, your real age, your real photos. No second accounts, no anonymity: everyone here is phone-verified and so are you. Impersonating someone, or faking who you are, is a permanent ban once we review the report.

4. First meets happen in public. Post hangouts at cafés, parks, bars, climbing gyms: places with other people around. Hosts: pick venues anyone can get into and leave easily. We'll nudge you toward public venues in-product; take the nudge.

5. Newcomers are the point. Half the people here just moved and know nobody. The move that makes Hangpost work is the generous one: the "anyone's welcome" hangout, the extra chair, the follow-up invite. Cliques happen in real life; don't engineer them here.

6. The board is about places, never people. City Guide tips and public posts talk about things: the broken escalator, the good happy hour, the pop-up market, the bus to avoid. They are never about a person or a group of people: no naming, photographing, or describing identifiable neighbors, staff, kids at the park, or "the people who hang out at X." Review the café, not the barista. People-posts come down on sight; repeats lose board access; targeting someone is harassment and handled under the hard lines. This single rule is what keeps a local board from rotting into a gossip page.

Never allowed (the hard lines)

These are the first-strike lines. One of them and the account is permanently banned after we review the report; there's no warning ladder for any of these.

  • Harassment, stalking, threats, or contacting someone who blocked you (including off-platform).
  • Public-board posts about identifiable people or groups (named, pictured, or described): the board reviews places and plans, never people (norm 6). Removed on sight; targeting someone escalates to the harassment line above.
  • Hate speech or dehumanizing anyone by identity.
  • Sexual content or behavior involving minors: reported to NCMEC and law enforcement, always. (Hangpost is 18+; anyone under 18 is removed on discovery.)
  • Non-consensual intimate imagery, or sharing anyone's private info (address, workplace schedule, etc.) without consent. If an intimate image of you is on Hangpost, you can request removal (no account needed) at hangpost.app/report-ncii; valid requests are removed within 48 hours.
  • Violence, or hangouts organized around illegal activity.
  • Scams, MLM recruiting, crypto pitches, unsanctioned advertising, or using hangouts as a sales funnel. (Businesses: there's a sanctioned path, the Sponsored Board. Email partners@hangpost.app.)
  • Weapons at hangouts.
  • Evading a ban or block with a new account.

Hosting a hangout (the standard you're signing up for)

  • Say what it is, where, when, and roughly how many.
  • Greet people. You posted it; you're the social anchor for the first ten minutes. That's the whole job.
  • If plans change, update the post; people are commuting to you.
  • You're not liable for everyone's night, but you are the person who set the tone.

Reporting and what happens next

Report any profile, post, or hangout in two taps. Reports are confidential: the person is not told who reported them. You can block anyone, any time, no reason needed; blocking removes you from each other's feeds and connections immediately.

  • Every report gets a human decision; our target is under 24 hours.
  • Consequence ladder: warning → feature limits (e.g., can't host) → suspension → permanent ban. Minor, no-target stuff (spam, a first-time board slip) starts at the low end. We skip straight to a permanent ban for the hard lines above: hate, harassment, threats, minors, NCII, doxxing, scams.
  • A permanent ban is meant to stick. Because every account is phone-verified, we also block that phone number from opening a new account, so a banned person can't just sign up again. If a ban was a mistake, that's what appeals are for.
  • Imminent danger: call 911 first, then report.
  • Appeals: email appeals@hangpost.app or reply to the enforcement notice; a different reviewer takes a second look. We publish aggregate enforcement stats.
  • Safety questions or concerns: safety@hangpost.app.

What we promise back

We verify phones, we review every report with a human, we never sell your data, we don't track your live location, and we show you why every person was recommended. We measure ourselves on friendships that stick, not on how long you stare at the app.
